What is Cos Phi? Cos Phi, or cosine phi, measures the loss of power during its transport. It is the ratio between real power and apparent power, where the current is out of phase with the voltage, which causes reactive power.
To reduce energy loss and make more efficient use of infrastructure or utilize capacity limits without expansion, it is beneficial to reduce reactive power. Otherwise, additional payment to the grid operator for the transported reactive power may be required.
